Udupi: Brahmavar Taluk Rachana Horata Samiti Begins Hunger Strike Demanding Taluk Status to Brahmava

Udupi, 05 Feb 2012: Brahmavar Taluk Rachana Horata Samiti began hunger protest, here on Monday February 4, urging the state government to form Brahmavar taluk, by including a few regions of Kota and Brahmavar.
The Samiti urges state administration to announce the formation of Brahmvar in the state budget that will be tabled in the state capital on Friday February 8.
The Samiti called for bandh on Sunday February 3, while the shop keepers voluntary closed their shops.
The Samiti led by its president Satish Poojary and several members began hunger strike. Over hundreds of college students who were present during the hunger strike, returned to college by Monday noon.
Satish Poojary urged the state government to respond to their plea of announcing Brahmavar taluk that is pending since over 35 years. Brahmavar qualifies to become a taluk, since it has Agriculture Science Centre, special Tahsildar’s office, gram panchayat office, colleges, religious centers etc.
BJP leader Jnana Vasant Shetty, Chantaru gram panchayat former president Jayanti Vasudev, Jaya Karnataka organization president Niranjan Hegde, Brahmavar taluk Rachana Samiti secretary Santosh Kumar Handady, Kota zonal Jan Jagruti Vedike president Achyut Poojary, Handady gram panchayat president Sudhir Kumar Shetty, Varamballi gram panchayat vice president Christine D’Silva, Karje gram panchayat president Sudha Bhat, Harady gram panchayat president Narayan Sriyan, Kunjalu gram panchayat vice president Raju Kulal and others were present at the occasion.
