Udupi, 02 Feb 2013: It’s owing to recklessness of contractor in stalling the highway four-lane works on NH 66, two precious lives were perished in a ghastly road-mishap at Tenka Yermal, near here on Saturday February 1 morning.
The deceased has been identified as fifty-three-year-old Joy Sebastian, his mother eighty-year-old Eli Kutty Sebastian. Joy Sebastian’s father eighti-five-year-old Devasia Sebastian was critically wounded in ghastly road mishap.
Joy Sebastian family hails from Kottayam district of Kerala, and are settled in Kavalakatte, near Hebri, Karkal taluk since the past 2 years. Joy had left to Kottayam to bring his elderly parents and were to Kavalakatte, when the tragedy occurred.
The eye witnesses said that Innova car that was driven by Joy Sebastian head-on collided with a truck at a curve located in front of Naraltaya temple, Tenka Yermal, near here at about 7.00am on Friday February 1.
Death toll rises:
The contractor has abruptly stalled the four-lane conversion works exactly from Naraltaya temple, NH 66 at Tenka Yermal, near here, which had taken the toll of four lives a month ago. Meanwhile, one wonders how many lives are likely to be lost owing to recklessness of contractor, because Joy Sebastian and his mother are addition to death toll. It is a coincidence that all those died on this spot are from Kerala. Its significant that one-way road abruptly ends at this point and the driver drives faster without knowing two-way traffic and meets grave end.
As the state administration is in turmoil to prove majority, who will ever take swift actions in restoring the road for normal traffic.
