Udupi, 28 Jan 2013: The intellect B Gopal Shetty urged Swami Vishveshwarateerta, religious head of Asta muts, here to set an example to others by shunning the practice of separate dining facilities at Krishna mutt, since Swami Vishveshwara demanded that the partiality in dining facilities for different castes is prevalent in 215 temples across Karnataka including Krishna mutt, Udupi.  Why the opposition of people only to discontinue the practice of partiality in dining facility only at Krishna mutt.

Gopal Shetty was speaking at the open discussion on the evil practice of maintaining separate dining facility for different castes and ritual of rolling-over-on-the-leftover-food of upper caste by lower castes, here on Sunday January 27.  It was organized by caste-free Forum.

The evil practices of child-marriages, jumping to the pyre of husband by his wife, dancers service in temples, naked service that prevailed in the country are already extinct.  Similarly, the evil practices of rolling-over-on-the-leftover-food of upper caste by lower castes and partiality in dining facilities had to discontinued to bring human dignity to all God’s creations, said Gopal Shetty.

Adamar Sripati Acharya said that the casteism, superstitious beliefs, evil practices are the results of economic oppression in the society.  The economic empowerment can curb many forms of evils, said Sripati.

Sripati Acharya urged the upper caste – Brahmins, to shun the practice of rolling-over-on-the-leftover-food of upper caste by lower castes.  There is no meaning in Swami Vishveshwarateerta’s statement that instead of the above mentioned practice, to begin the innovated practice of rolling-over-the-food that was offered to the devotees at the temple.  The food is worshiped as Brahma – the Creator who sustains mankind.  It’s a sacrilege to waste food by evil practice, instead if it’s given to poor; one would be blessed for this good deed.

Dalit Sangarsha Samiti president Jayan Malpe presided the programme.

The Forum convener Hayavadana Mudusagri welcomed the gathering and moderated the discussion.
