Mangalore: Social Activists Stage Protest Rally with Mega Footwear against Women Atrocities

Mangalore, 26 Jan 2013: The social activists and students of different colleges across the city held a protest rally, by carrying large-sized footwear from Ambedkar Circle to Ladies Club, Balmatta, here on Thursday January 24, in order protest against the atrocities on women across the country and to convey solidarity with the women victims.
The condolences were offered to the deceased women victims by lighting the candles, when the rally was concluded at Ladies Club.
Addressing the gathering, Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes said that awarding harsh punishment to the accused will not solve the atrocities on women. The need of the hour is to change the mindset of people in the society, which would have positive effects in this regard, said Oscar.
Every citizen of our country should be concerned with atrocities on women. The recent incident of gang-rape is not limited to the national capital. The entire nation should be woken up in the interest of society, urged Oscar.
Women rights activist, lawyer and Majlis Organization director Flavia Agnes said that commended the role of media in covering the gang-rape case that was held in national capital recently. A stage has been set to wage struggle against women atrocities all over the country, said Flavia.
The former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake, Blossom Fernandes, Mayor Gulzar Banoo, Congress leader G A Gafoor, social activist Vidhya Dinkar, Bollywood movie director Sandeep Malani, UNO and WHO retired regional advisor Dr Derrick Lobo, Gulabi Bilimale, Mangalore Abhivruddi Nagarika Vedike chairperson Loretto Lobo and others were present at the occasion.
