Kasargod: Woman, mother held on cheating charge

Kasaragod, 20 Jan 2013: A 27-year old woman, who claimed to be an aeronautical engineering student, and her mother were arrested by the police on the charge of duping a dental doctor in Hyderabad of Rs 5 lakh by giving a false assurance. Riyana Kasim, 27, and her mother, Suhra, 47, residents of Chala locality here, were taken into custody by the local police following a case registered with their counterparts in Hyderabad on a complaint filed by Shanthi Reddy, a dental physician, that she had been duped of the sum by the duo.
The police said they would be taken to Hyderabad for interrogation. The police said the duo had taken the reported sum about six months back promising to do the doctor some favour. They reportedly had cheated several others with offers to get admission for their wards in a Karnataka medical college. The women were arrested with the help of cyber wing of the police. Riyana was in the news some time ago after she lodged a police complaint of threat to her life for refusing to wear purdha.
