Udupi: Market-Complex to Come up Soon in City to sell Handicrafts of Stree Shakti SHGs

Udupi, 12 Jan 2013: A proposal has been forwarded to state government to construct a market-complex to sell handicrafts made by Stree Shakti Self-Help-Groups (SHGs) in city, at a cost of Rs 2 crore. Meanwhile, The state will grant Rs 1.50 crore and rest of Rs 50 lac will have to be provided from funds of zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat, said district-in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.
The minister Srinivas was speaking after inaugurating inter-district cultural exchange programme organised by state Bala Bhavana Society, at district Bala Bhavana, Brahmagiri, here on Saturday January 12.
The nutritional food is being distributed to each Annganawady to alleviate malnourishment among the children, under Bhagyalaxmi Paroject. Besides, fixed deposit of Rs 1 lac will be issued for the education of girl students born in poorest families. About 15 lac families have availed this facility, said minister Srinivas.
MLA Raghupati Bhat presided the programme.
ZP president Upendra Nayak, DC Dr Reju, state Bala Bhavana Society president Sulochana Bhat, Karnataka state Coir Development Board president Sheela Shetty, stateBala Bhavana Society secretary Divya Narayanappa were the chief guests of the occasion.
The state-level achiever 4 students and district-level achiever 8 studetns were felicitated during the programme.
The state-level Kalashree Award receipient artist Pradeep Bhat stunned the viewers by drawing the picture of Swami Vivekanand by using threat and colours in a few minutes.
Women and child development department deputy director Rita Madtha delivered the introductory address. ZP chief exceutive officer S A Prabhakar Sharma welcomed the gathering. Veena compered the programme. Shyamala Kundar proposed vote of thanks.
