Mangalore: Aloysian Reunion Set For Gala High

Mangalore, 10 Jan 2013: St Aloysius College Alumni/ae Association (SACAA) is holding its Annual Reunion on January 12, 2013 at the college campus from 7PM onwards. This eagerly looked-forward-to annual event, this year offers a wider mix of games, housie and entertainment items, MCed  by well-known compares Sumit Rao, Janice Goveas and Arthur D,Souza who is also Convenor of the Reunion. Mr Dayananda Pai, an ex-Aloysian and noted educationalist and builder would be the Chief Guest.

No Annual Report

Responding to comments about lengthy formal segments of Reunion celebration, the organizers have deleted  the conventional annual report and have creatively pruned the time duration for the formal function. This provides an opportunity for ex-Aloysians to spend more time for interaction around upholstered round tables and chairs on the foreground of the heritage old college building. Or, they could opt for counters for spirititual potions of their choice and snack bars offering veg and non-veg starters. There would be a sumptuous buffer spread for dinner, with veg and non-veg temptations, topped by desserts. All these for a cover charge of Rs 250 – a steal considering the chance to bag many prizes and hampers offered by generous donors. Apart from the fast-paced housie, there are also chances to win prizes in the lucky dip for bucketed  ticket counterfoils.

Pot-luck

Pot-luck takes a different meaning at the Reunion venue where participants are invited to a specially set up counter with a mud pot from which numbered chits are to be drawn, with numbers starting from 600 and ending with 5999. In aid of the swimming pool project, described below, the pot luck draw was symbolically inaugurated during the last Reunion.. But it went beyond symbolism as dozens queued up for the draw. The organizers had to disappoint the prospective draw-enthusiast as there was no time slot for this event. This time, the pot-luck progamme would be  a parallel activity, and would go on at a discreetly located counter. Pot-luck drawers would not have to make spot settlement and would settle accounts later. It is a win-win situation: if one draws a lower denomination, he will settle for less; and if one draws higher denomination, the swimming Pool Project kitty will swell faster.

Swimming Pool Project

The projected swimming pool at St. Aloysius campus will put it, and Mangalore, on the competitive swimming map of India. Designed to international standards, this ozonised pool will have 8 lanes of 50 metres each.  There would also be a mini pool for children. A vote of confidence for this project has come from the University Grants Commission  which has sanctioned Rs. one crore for it. Work has already started on the project, estimated to cost Rs4 crore+  - mainly due to the formidable retention wall to ensure complete safety to downstream people , structures and properties. But, once constructed at one-time cost basis, it would benefit generations of students to vie for plum pan-India sports prizes and kids to learn swimming.
Finally, the MCs at the Reunion would be looking for the oldest ex- Aloysian attending it, as the earlier record holder, the lateMr. Monis, 95 years(May he rest in peace) , expired last year.
