Udupi: A G Kodgi Urges Authorities to Allocate Rs 2,500 Crore in State Budget to install Water Meter

Udupi, 10 Jan 2013: The water meters should be compulsorily installed for each tap-connection in every house and collect the bills. All the free tap connections should be disconnected. In order to implement this project, the authorities has to allocate Rs 2,500 crore in the forthcoming state budget, advised A G Kodgi, chairman of third economic Commission taskforce Committee.
A G Kodgi was speaking at district level officers meet that was convened here on Tuesday January 8, to discuss the recommendations drawn by taskforce Committee, in order urge CM Jagdish Shettar to allocate funds in state budget for most essential projects.
Rs 2,000 crore had to be allocated to develop rural roads across the state, to allocate Rs 3,000 crore to account for hike in monthly pension of Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 that is granted to people at the age-group of 65 – 80 years under Social Security Project, added A G Kodgi.
The state administration had to hike zilla panchayat discretionary funds from Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore, to hike state funds to village councils from Rs 12 – Rs 15 based on population, to release Rs 30 lac for each village council to build their own building, to hike housing assistance from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1.50 lac to deserving homeless, said A G Kodgi.
Besides, a minimum of Rs 100 crore had to be allocated for Coastal Development Authority to implement various projects, to transfer the project of Soubhagya Sanjivini - linking rivers in Western Ghats to provide drinking water to masses, and to allocate Rs 10 crore to prepare project report for its extended project, stressed A G Kodgi.
To compulsorily construct toilets in each house, school and colleges, to extend Vajpayee Arogyashree project to all districts across the state, to upgrade primary health center in each legislative assembly constituency into thirty-bedded hospitals, to subsidize electricity bills to street lights at the limits of village councils, to equalize the financial assistance to all housing projects, to lay a minimum of 100 kilometers of new roads in every taluk, to appoint the backlog of staff in village councils, emphasized A G Kodgi.
Taskforce Committee member Timme Gowda, Coastal Development Authority chiarman Tingale Vikramarjuna Hegde, member Gujjady Prabhakar Nayak, ZP president Upendra Nayak, vice presidnet Mamata Shetty, DC Dr M T Reju, ZP chief executive officer Vijayakumar Hegde and others were present at the occasion.
