Kavita Fest - 2013 to be Held on January 13 in Thumbay, Bantwal

Mangalore, 08 Jan 2013: Kavita Trust will be organising Kavita Fest – 2013, a festival of poetry, at Thumbay in Bantwal, in the courtyard of Basti Vaman Shenoy’s residence, on 13th January. Kavita Trust is a trust that works for the promotion of Konkani poetry. The full day’s programme is focused around poetry. This Festival is organized by Kavita Trust in association with Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation and Department of Kannada & Culture, Government of Karnataka.
The programme will begin at 9:30 am with a colourful procession from BA Hospital Thumbay, with delegates from Goa, Karnataka, Maharastra and Kerala participating. Renowned Konkani activist and poet Uday L Bhembre, will inaugurate the daylong programme. Mr. Bhembre will also present a paper on “Poet and his social responsibility” and Maxim Lobo, Bangalore and Nutan Sakhardande, Goa will respond to the paper.
The final rounds of Rohan and Lavita Monteiro All India Konkani Poetry Reciting Competition will be held with 28 finalists taking part. Post lunch is the multilingual poetry session which will be presided over by Uday Mhambro, Goa and Indu Gersappe, Stany Bela, Wilma Bantwal, Francis Fernandes Cascia, Geo Agrar, Ashok Bhonslo, Dr L Suneetha Bai (all Konkani), Ashraf Apollo (Beary) V S Bhat (Kannada), Amrita Athrady (Tulu) and Kiran Parmar (Hindi) will recite their poetry.
The closing ceremony in the evening will have Kannada and Konkani writer and lexicographer Fr Prashanth Madtha as chief guest. The prizes of The Late Charles and Theresa Rodrigues Memorial All India Konkani Poetry Writing Competition will be handed over. Rajay Pawar, poet from Goa will be honoured with Mathias Family Poetry Award.
Basti Madhava Shenoy, Basti Gouri Shenoy, James and Shobha Mendonca, Rohan and Lavita Monteiro will be guests of honour. A collection of poetry by Vally Vogga will be released on the occasion.
After the closing ceremony there will be folk performance by `Mand Samel’ - a Goan troupe. Melvyn Rodrigues and Basti Vaman Shenoy presidents of Kavita Trust and Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation have welcomed all poetry loving people to this 7th edition of festival of poetry.
