Udupi, 05 Jan 2013: ABVP led a protest rally from First Grade College, Kaup, near here to Kaup town, on Friday January 4, opposing the rape cases of Soujanya in Dharmasthala and recent rape victim – twenty-three-years-old physiotherapist Damini in New Delhi. The students of Dandateerta College, Kaup participated in the protest rally.

Addressing the protesters, students’ union leader Puroshottam Poojary said that both union and state governments are slow to take action related to rape victims Soujanya and Damini.  The girls and women are not safe either in New Delhi or in a remote village across the nation.  Only Sonia Gandhi and Sheela Dixit are safe in police protection, said Poojary.  He demanded harsh punishment for rapists, besides cautioned of aggravated protest if both union and state governments fail to address the issue at the earliest.

The students of different colleges across the district also staged mass protests over the same issue.

Playing politics with a personal tragedy that befell on a young dating couple in Delhi only shows how shallow our so called leadership including student leaders are in their vision. No doubt, such tactics will deliver short term swings of public opinion to the groups taking out such rallies, protests and candle light vigils. As the debate rages on in print and broadcast media, political leaders, both men and women, belonging to ANY political party and their parent or shadow organizations are making statements which show the true mindset. Come February 14, this mindset will be out again in the streets protesting against "western culture". Phrases like maryada and laxman rekha, are already doing the rounds, especially from the leaders who are guides to ABVP. The gist is if the woman is confined to her home, she is safe. Exactly, what Taliban in Afghanistan enforced.

What about Advaniji, Swaraj and other political leaders of BJP? Are they not safe in Delhi? I think protesters need to be unbiased! This kind of party affiliation is not good for any kind of youth or citizens! Get out of the shell and be an unbiased youth towards a better future and a better country for future generation! What is it only supporting one political party and vested exhibition of youth power all the time!! Only BJP based agenda is everything? Every political party is equally good or bad! Let youth intension be appreciated by all and meaningful for all just causes! Be united for all good causes of mankind!
