Mangalore: Jet Airways Begins Maiden Flight to Dubai

Mangalore, 03 Jan 2013: It’s a milestone in the history of Jet Airways, India’s fastest growing private airline, to begin the direct flight from Mangalore to Dubai here at 8.00pm on Thursday January 3.  Mangalore was the third destination that Jet Airways began operating flight from Mumbai soon after its launch on May 3 1993, after Ahmadabad and Coimbatore.  Jet Airways strives on becoming one among 5 global airlines. Mangalore is the gateway to gulf countries and rest of the world, said Gaurang Shetty, Jet Airways senior vice president (commercial). 

 
 
G Shetty was speaking at the launch of direct flight form Mangalore – Dubai, here on Thursday January 3 evening.  He further said that the launch was possible in a matter of a month, owing to co-ordinated efforts of Airport Authority of India (AAI), customs, immigration and CISF with ministry of civil aviation and DGCA, added Shetty.

 
Udupi – Chikmagalur MP Jayaprqakash Hegde, former Mangalore Airport director Vasudev Rao, present airport director Radhakrishna and Corporation Bank chairman Ajith Kumar were the chief guests of the occasion.

 

 

 
Speaking at the occasion, MP Jayaprakash Hegde said that he followed up with ministry of civil aviation in getting international status for Mangalore Airport.  Besides, he is following up with them to increase aprons and add additional facilities at the airport.  The cargo sector has a great potential to earn further revenue both for airlines and AAI, said MP Jayaprakash Hegde.

 

Ajit Kumar said that the upgraded status of Mangalore International Airport has overnight changed the business potentials in every sector of the coastal region, said Ajit Kumar.  He also said that the competition of private airlines with low cost carriers also brings better facilities to passengers, added Ajit Kumar.

 
Vasudev Rao explained the transformation of old airport into ultra-modern airport over two decades, AAI faced early challenges in co-ordination with in-house departments and expressed happiness over Jet Airways beginning its first flight from Mangalore – Dubai.

The new flight 9W 532 has departed from port city of Mangalore to Dubai at 8.00pm on Thursday.  It will operate flights on same route on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.  On the return leg, flight 9W 531 will depart Dubai at 2330 hours (local time) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, and arrive at Mangalore at 0430 hours (local time) next day.

 

On Fridays, flight 9W 532 will depart Mangalore at 1900 hours and arrive at Dubai at 2130 hours (loal time).  On the return, flight 9W 531 will depart Dubai at 2230 hours (local time) and arrive Mangalore at 0330 hours (local time) the next day.  On Tuesday, flight 9W 532 will depart Mangalore at 1940 hours and arrive Dubai at 2210 hours (local time). 
Jet Airways currently operates daily direct flights to Dubai from Delhi and four services a day from Mumbai.
