Shirva: Job Oriented Courses Inaugurated at Don Bosco Youth Centre

Shirva, 18 Dec 2012: On 17th December 2012, Don Bosco Youth Centre, Shirva, Udupi District, Karnataka, turned a new leaf in its mission to the youngsters. The Inauguration and Blessing of a new project of conducting Job oriented Courses in Hospitality Management and Computers was held here. Rev. Dr. Mark Mathias, M.B.A., Ph.D., Former Dean of Hospitality Management Studies at University of San Carlos, Philippines, inaugurated the newly equipped Hospitality Lab. Mrs. Mary D’Souza, President of Shirva Village Panchayat inaugurated the Computer Lab. Rev. Fr. Maxim D’Souza sdb, Rector of Don Bosco Youth Centre, Shirva blessed both the Labs.
During the Inaugural function that followed, the Chief Guest of the Function, Rev. Dr. Mark Mathias, inaugurated the Hospitality Management and Computer Courses by lighting the Lamp. Speaking on the occasion he lauded the efforts of the Don Bosco Salesian Fathers and Brothers in spearheading the movement of skill training in the country. He opined that it is indeed fortunate that such a venture is being initiated at Shirva. He hoped that the youth of Shirva and the surrounding villages in the Udupi District will take advantage of the training provided in the institute.
Fr. Leo Pereira sdb, the Guest of Honour presented a bird’s eye view of the achievements of DB Tech India in the past few years. He cited that so far about 49,634 youngsters all over the country have been trained in more than 35 trades in the 156 centres under the umbrella organization “DB Tech India”. Supported by the Government of India and the Corporate Sector, this initiative has helped in increasing the skill-scape of the country and has prevented youngsters get into anti social activities.
Fr. Maxim D’Souza sdb, Rector of the Institution welcomed the gathering and thanked the support of DB Tech Trasi, Benefactors and the people of good will. He congratulated the students and the Staff for showing their faith in this project initiated by Don Bosco’s. Mr. Norber E. Machado, Former Vice President of Shirva Parish, encouraged the students to make good use of the opportunity provided by the Salesians at Don Bosco Youth Centre.
Present on the occasion were Fr. Augustine Fernandes sdb, Administrator, Mrs. Mary D’Souza, President of Shirva Panchayat, Mr. Mr. Stephen Lobo (Hospitality Trainer), Mr. Dinesha Madivala & Mr. Suhan Dheeraj (Social Workers) and prominent citizens of Shirva.
