Mangalore: Rice distributed to 400 families to mark Indira Gandhi birth anniversary

Mangalore, 27 Nov 2012: Rice was distributed to more than 400 poor families of Jeppina Mogaru – Tardolya on behalf of Mangalore Kisan Congress committee and Tardolya Friends on November 24, in Jeppinamogaru near Kallurti Daivasthan Maidan, to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi.
Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary inaugurated the function. Speaking after the inauguration, Mr. Poojary has said that Mrs. Indira Gandhi strived for the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden in the country. It was Mrs. Indira Gandhi who opened the door of nationalised banks for the service of the poor people of this country, Poojary added.
Speaking at the programme after distributing rice to the poor, former City Corporation Commissioner and Congress leader Mr. J.R. Lobo lauded programmes undertaken by Mrs. Indira Gandhi for overall development of poor people. Mrs. Indira Gandhi laid the foundation of progress and development and he was goddess of the poor, Lobo said.
Lakhs of landless farmers and farm labourers benefited by the Land Reforms legislation initiated by Mrs. Indira Gandhi and which fuelled the growth of modern India, Lobo explained. In her life time spread the sentiment of love especially towards the poor and marginalized sections of the Indian society, he added.
Kisan Congress committee and Tardolya Friends president U.Karunaka welcomed the gathering. Ex.MLA Vijay Kumar Shetty, Congress leaders like PV Mohan, Kallige Taranath Shetty, Umeshchandra, Harikrishna Bantwal, former KPCC secretary Mohammad Badruddin, youth leaders Arun Cohello, Denis D’Silva, Nagendra Kumar, Shashiraj Ambat, Sadananda Alva, T K Sudhir, and others were present for the programme.
