Udupi: Protesting against lethargy, JD(S) ‘locks’ the Taluk Office gate

Udupi, 20 Nov 2012: JD(S) supporters staged a protest in front of the Taluk office by placing a symbolic lock on the gate. This protest was undertaken by the JD(S) leaders and workers accusing the officials of the Udupi Taluk office of neglecting the common people who approach the office for various needs and exploitation of the workers in the office by the higher officials, The protest was led by former MLA UR Sabhapathi. He accused the Tahashildar of deliberately delaying the work of common people and harassing them by pointing finger to some complicated rules and regulations.
Sabhapathi also said that the Sakala Programme that was introduced by the state government has has not done any good to the common people approaching the government offices for their work. The documents which should be made available within a week under the Sakala Programme take more than a month. This manifests the negative attitude of the officials, said Sabhapathi.
Thereafter a cut out of a large lock was tied to the gate to express the protest of the anger of the people against the lethargic functioning of the Taluk Office. The police under the instructions of the Circle Inspector of Udupi Maruti Nayak arrested the protestors and later released them.
JD (S) Executive President Gulam Ahmad and other leaders Manjula Prasad, Shantaram Bekal, Suresh Suvarna, Valeerian Gomes, Vasantha Poojary Marne and other s participated in the protest.
