Two Days Monsoon Cricket Tournament at Padubelle

Moodubelle, 12 June 2010: As the long awaited monsoon finally started with renewed force since Friday, 11 June 2010, the Geleyara Balaga of Padubelle, a youth organisation that has been founded nearly 35 years ago to promote sports and cultural activities among the young as well as old organised the first ever two days Monsoon Cricket Tournament at Mullachhil Padubelle on Saturday, 12 June 2010 which will be continued tomorrow as well. Most probably this is the only Monsoon Cricket Tournament in the Udupi District. On Saturday, 12 June, the Monsoon Cricket  Tournament began at 9 am and ended at 5 pm.

According to the organisers, the President of the Geleyara Balaga, Roopesh Poojary and Secretary, Raghavendra Shetty,  27 teams have been enrolled for the Monsoon Cricket Trophy. These teams are from various neighbouring places such  Belapu, Bantakal Friends, Palli, Bailoor, Bailakere-Udupi, Poydapadi, Kunjarugiri, Padubelle, Kurkal, Pamboor, Katapadi, Nellikatte, Moodubelle and other places. 

The tournament is of five overs for each team. The winners and runners up will be decided by the evening of Sunday, 13 June 2010. The winning team will get the prize amounting INR 3333/- and a trophy and runners up team will  receive INR 2222/- and a trophy. Besides these teams trophies individual prizes will be awarded to Best Batsman, Best Bowler and Man of the Series.

The whole of the Monsoon Crocket Tournament is sponsored by the generous  local donors. Besides the teams and their supporters, teh Monsoon Cricket Tournament is being attended by Vincent Alva, Gregory Alva, Harish Shetty, Sudhakar Poojary, Shankar Acharya, remus D’Souza, Valerian Alva.

The tournament will continue tomorrow, Sunday, 13 June 2010.
