Moodubelle: Children’s Day celebrated in St. Lawrence PU College

Moodubelle, 19 Nov 2012: Children’s Day was celebrated in St. Lawrence PU College, Moodubelle with a number of activities for the students. In the morning session fancy dress competition was conducted for students of both Pu College and High School followed by friendly cricket tournament between teachers and students. At two pm different lucky games were conducted for the students. These games included housie-housie, bombing the city, action games, etc.

 

The  stage programme was held following the lucky games. The youngest student, Sandeep presided over the programme. Mrs. Hilda Aranha, senior Teacher and Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of the PU College addressed the students. Mrs. Vidya Shetty, President of the PTA welcomed the gathering. Sponsors of the Children’s Day function-Charles Quadros, Rathnakara, Mrs. Sujatha Suvarna, Mrs. Vidya Shetty and Robert Martis were felicitated by the Principal.

 

 

 

Prizes were distributed to the winners of the lucky games by the dignitaries on the dais. Devaraya Shanbhag, member of the State Statistics Text Book Committee was also honoured during this occasion. The winners of the District Sports Tournament-Ruvita D’Souza, Stanis B. Lopez and Sharun  Raj were felicitated by the guests. Some of the teachers entertained the students by presenting a song. Valerian Crasta, convenor of the Shivaji Squad proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs. Sujatha Suvarna compeered the programme.  The Shivaji Squad and the PTA took the lead in organizing the programme. Meals were sponsored by Charles Quadros in memory of his parents. Payasa was sponsored by Mrs. Vidya Shetty and sweets by Rathnakara, the cable operator.

 

On the same occasion the students were given information about the Education Department’s project “Shala Shraddha Vachanalaya’  with the theme of “Take out the books and light the lamp of knowledge” for the high school students with a view to inculcate the habit of reading library books among the students. Mrs. Hilda Aranha in her introductory address emphasized on the importance of  the project. Mrs. Chandrakala, lecturer of Kannada  in the PU College enlightened the students about the need to read books and the use of library. Fr. Paul Sequeira said that the objective of the students being the acquisition of knowledge, they should use the opportunity provided to them through libraries and read books.

 

Following the programme, Fr. Paul Sequeira unveiled the placard of the library which is renamed as “Shala Shraddha Vachanalaya”. Following this, the students and teachers picked up books and went through them.  Students were asked to take books home so that they can read them leisurely.
