Mumbai: Konkani Musical Nite by KWA-Sion

Mumbai, 17 Nov 2012: On the occasion of their 1st Annual Day celebrations, “Konkani Welfare Association Sion” organized a ‘KONKANI MUSICAL NITE’ on 11th November 2012 at 7.00 p.m. at Sion, Mumbai, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church Ground.
The Association was found last year under the leadership of Mr. Lesli D’Cunha and Harry Sequeira, strongly supported by John Rebello. The promotion of Social service, Peace and Harmony in society being the Motto of the association, last year they had presented benefit show of Wilfy Nite to cater to the need of Poor Widows. This year they organized “KONKANI MUSICAL NITE’
performed by well known Goan and Mangalorean artists, singers and musicians like Ivan Sequeira, Nephie Rod, John Mascarenhas, Anthony Tauro, Titta Pretto, Betty Naz, Carrie Fernandes, Antonett, Saby Fernandes, Zubin Fernandes, Charles D’Cunha, Sunita Tauro, Edwin Rodrigues, Sardar Dildar singh ( who sang popular Juliana song), Aldred Crasta and Dance Group, and Gregory Sequeira, Vincent Castelino, Flora D’Souza, Felix Malwani and others with musicians Benjamin Miranda and troupe.
The association members presented a beautiful welcome song composed by John Mascarenhas, well presented with uniform costume and traditional “Pan Fod and Godd udaak“. Thereafter various songs by all artists like “Monglura, Mog konne dekla, Ye Mog Ye” of Anthony Tauro, “Darling, colegichi Choli” of John Mascarenhas, “Diwali” of Charles D’Cunha, besides popular songs of composed by Mic Max, Wilfy Rebimbus, Henry D’Souza, Chris Parrie, Henry T.D’Souza, H.Britton, Remo Fernandes, Carrie, Joe walles, Preema Rodrigues, Ramiro Mascarenhas etc.
The Association had organized several social and cultural programes for the upliftment of poor and needy. Activities like Blood donation camp, health check-up camp, Financial assistance to widows, poor children etc., were some of the major programmes.
Harry Rebello (a social activist and CMD of CARAVAN FLEET OWNERS & Transport) was the Chief Guest and Cyril Tauro (Social activist - BJP), Fr. Leslie D’Cunha, Fr. Nelson Saldanha (PP-Jerimeri), Lawrence Coelho (Divo Editor), Suzan Coelho (Secular Citizen-Editor), Philomena Lobo Chakala (Vice Principal – Airport Jr. College) were the guests of honour, present on the Dias.
The Vice-President Leen Pinto welcomed the guests, while Harry Sequeira (founder and adviser of Assn) presented the Association Report. President Dulcine Furtado gave away ‘Gift Vouchers’ to Poor and Handicap Children. Secretary Denis D’Souza proposed vote of thanks. Clement Lobo Compered the Show. Committee members like Molly Sequeira (Treasurer), Leena Pinto, Rita Arahna, David D’Silva, Kistu Fernandes, Lawrence Lobo and others honoured the guests with flower bouquets. The president specially thanked the Chief Guest and all guests of honour. Also thanked all artists, musicians, dancers, skit organizers especially Alex Saldanha, C.J. Baptist, Fr. Richard, Clement Lobo, John Mascarenhas, Anthony Tauro and others who supported for the success of the Konkani Musical Nite and anniversary celebration.
