Katapadi, 8 June 2010: The grand coronation ceremony of Shri Kalahastendra Saraswati Mahaswami of Shrimad Anegundi Samsthana Saraswati Peetha was held on Monday, 7th June 2010 in the forenoon under the guidance of Shri Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Shringeri Sharada Peetadhishwara Jagadguru Shri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswami in the Gurudhyana Mandir near Katapadi’s Venugiri Shri Kalikamba Vishwakarmeshwara temple with full religious rituals.

Shri Kalahastendra Saraswati Mahaswami is the successor of Shri Kashyadi Panchasimhasanadhishwara Shrimad Anegundi 108 Shri Nagadharmendra Theertha Mahaswami of Belagutthi Mutt in Shivmogga District. Shri Kalahastendra Saraswati Mahaswami had taken dheeksha after 100 years and five years later his grand coronation ceremony was held on Monday, 7th June 2010.

Shri Shiva Sujnana Moorthy Mahaswami of Aremadana Halli, Sujnana Prabhu Peetha placed the silver crown on the head of Shri Kalahastendra Saraswati Mahaswami. The Vedic rituals of the coronation ceremony were conducted by  Vinayaka Udupa, the vedic scholar of the Shringeri Mutt.

In the religious assembly following the grand coronation ceremony, the Jagadguru of Shringeri, Shri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswami in his Ashirvachana said that as the people of unstable mind require guides so also the society require the gurus as guides. When the chiefs of various mutts follow religious practices, they can build a strong and happy society. He wished that Shri Kalahastendra Sraswati Mahaswami as the head of the Vishwakarma community  would be able to guide his community as a great guru.

In his Ashirvachana, Shri Kalahastendra Saraswati Mahaswami expressed happiness at being coronated by the Shankaracharya of Shringeri. A large number of religious leaders from different parts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts were present during this occasion.

It is said that the coronation ceremony was held in Katapadi following a wish expressed by Shri Nagadharmendra Mahaswami 105 years ago. Thousands of people belonging to the Vishwakarma community from all over the Karnataka State as well as outside the state were present for this grand coronation ceremony. Thousands of people participated in the lunch (annasantarpane) and other religious and cultural programmes.
