Manipal, 30 Oct 2012: Bajrang Dal and BJP workers gheraoed Manipal police station and protested against the alleged assault on one of their workers by the police of the Manipal police station on Monday, October 29, 2012.
According to the report, Chandrashekhar Nayak, a resident of Perampalli had approached the police station at Manipal to complain about the land dispute on Monday morning. He was accompanied by Anil, a Bajrang Dal member. When the police questioned Chandrashekhar about the need to bring Anil to complain about the land dispute, Anil argued with the police that he was a frined of Chandrashekhar and he had come to help him in lodging the complaint. This resulted in heated argument between the police and Anil.
In his statement, Anil said that following the argument he was taken in side by the police and was manhandled. He also informed the Bajrang Dal and BJP Yuva Morcha volunteers to come to the police station as he claimed that he was ill-treated by the police. This led to the complication as the assembled Bajrang Dal and BJP Yuva Morcha volunteers began shouting slo9gans against the police.
As the Udupi Police Commissioner, Maruti Nayak reached the spot to inquire about the issue, the Bajrang Dal volunteers raised their voices to denounce the ‘police harassment’ to one of their members. Eventually, the police wriggled out of the situation by accepting the complaint from Chandrashekhar Nayak.
