Udupi: First Bangalore-Karwar Train welcomed at Indrali Station

Udupi, 19 Oct 2012: As the first train from Bangalore to Karwar arrived at the Indrali (Udupi) Station on Thursda, October 18, 2012 at 10.37 am, it was greeted enthusiastically on behalf of the Railway Passengers’ Association. Speaking at this occasion R.L. Dias, President of the association said that after three years of continuous struggle in spite of political apathy, appealing to the High Court and because of the public interest activities by Shankar Bhat of Mangalore the railway passengers have secured this facility. In between many political leaders tried to promote their party interest in this struggle. However, the association would work hard to get similar facilities in future as well.
S.S. Thonse, District Secretary of the Retired State Employees Association said that those who were not participants in the agitation for railway passengers are interested only enjoying the benefits of such agitations. He also said that as the first train from Bangalore to Karwar reached Indrali (Udupi) it will be written in golden letters as part of the history.
A number of leaders such as Industrialist Balaji Raghavendra Acharya praised the efforts of Dias and complimented him on the achievements of the Railway Passengers’ Association. Sweets were distributed by the association in memory of the arrival of the first train from Bangalore to Indrali on its way to Karwar.
