Gowri Poojary elected Udupi Taluk Panchayat chief, Rama Kulal deputy

Udupi, 10 Oct 2012: Deprived from the Udupi Zilla Panchayath President – Vice President positions, the BJP’s rebel group (supporters of former Kundapura MLA Haladi Shrinivasa Shetty) succeeded in grabbing the President’s position in Udupi Taluk Panchayath. Moreover, BJP itself had given away this position to Haladi group!

 

In the election conducted for the positions of President – Vice President on Wednesday, Gowri Vishwanath Poojary and Rama Kulal defeated congress candidates Dr Sunitha Shetty and Umesh Naik with 23 votes out of 41, while the Congress candidates got 18 votes. Nominations to the post of the president were filed at 12.30 pm.

 

There were two candidates contesting for the post of the President - Gowri and Dr Sunitha Shetty. Elections were held at 3 pm and by 3.30 pm, Gowri Poojary was pronounced elected as the President of the Udupi Taluk Panchayat. Gowri Poojary speaking to media persons said that she will continue the developmental projects started by the earlier president.

 

Barkur Taluk Panchayath Member Gowri Poojary was also the Vice President of Barkur Grama Panchayath earlier. After 8 months of her tenure she got an opportunity to contest for the Taluk Panchayath elections. Gowri is the resident of Hoisala Grama. Vice president Rama Kulal is a member of Perdoor Taluk Panchayath.

 

 

 

Sadashiv Prabhu - Kundapur Assistant Commissioner conducted the election process along with Taluk Panchayath Officer D. Manjunathayya. Outgoing President Moodubelle Devdas Hebbar and Vice President Baby S. Poojary handed over the new President and vice Presidents and congratulated them.

 

Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Udupi Zilla panchayath Acting President Upendra Naik, Udupi City Municipal Corporator Ravi Ameen, Udupi district BJP Chief Uday Kumar Shetty, Zilla Panchayath member Githanjali Suvarna and others congratulated the newly elected President and Vice President.
