Indian Classical Concert held to mark Asian Cooperation Dialogue Summit

Kuwait, 09 October 2012: An outstanding Indian Classical Music & Dance Concert featuring Maestro Salil Bhatt on SATVIK VEENA & KATHAK Dance performance by Ms. Parwati Dutta & her troupe was held on Wednesday 03 October at the Abdul Aziz Hussain Auditorium, Mishref in the run up to the Asian Cooperation Dialogue Summit being organized by the Govt. of Kuwait. Pt. Salil Bhatt filled the environment with sublime music by playing waltz on his Satvik Veena. This was followed by recital of Raga Jog, by Salil Bhatt assisted by Himanshu Mahant on Tabla (Indian drums). He also played two compositions of the traditional Alap at very high speed to a thunderous response from the audience.

 


 
Parwati Dutta and her troupe mesmerized the audience with various masterly dance pieces like “Arpan” which was composed by the legendary singer Tansen in praise of Mughal Emperor Akbar describing his power and grandeur as majestic as the five elements that have created this world. This was followed by “Holi” the vibrant festival of colors expressed through narrative and rhythmic passages based on poem of medieval poet Padmakar in which he describes the folks of village Gokul being smeared with colors, yet their forehead shining with the great fortune of being with the Lord. Parwati Dutta thereafter rendered the “Niratat Dhang” and displayed the technical virtuosity of Kathak dance including fast-paced spins, crisp footwork and gliding movements. She concluded by “Sfuran” a Kaleidoscope in time and space, woven across rhythmic and melodic patterns.


 
A large number of Kuwaiti dignitaries, distinguished Ambassadors and members of the Indian community in Kuwait attended the concert. Prominent among those who attended were His Excellency, Mr. Mohammad Abdullah Abo Al-Hassan, Advisor to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, His Excellency, Eng. Ali Hussein Al-Youha, Secretary General of National Council for Arts, Culture & Literature, His Excellency, Mr. Mohamad Ali Al-Kandari, Under Secretary of Ministry of Social Affairs & Labour and His Excellency, Ambassador Mohamad Rashed Al-Mejren Al-Roomi, Director, Asia Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The vibrant and scintillating performance by Maestro Salil Bhatt & the troupe led by Parwati Dutta received spontaneous applause from the appreciative audience in the auditorium. The audience gave the maestros a standing ovation upon conclusion of the performance. The event was organized by National Council for Culture, Arts & Letters, Kuwait in cooperation with the Embassy of India.
