Padubidri, 18 September 2012: In the process of the establishment of Suzlon Project for producing electricity from wind machines, in the last 3 years the Koraga families of Abbedi and Bogger Lachchil who were displaced will be provided with the regularized shelters, said Udupi Zilla Panchayath Chief Administrative Officer Prabhakara Sharma.
4 families from Abbedi and 5 families from Bogger Lachchil of Koraga community were displaced homeless and they are living with difficulty on the roadside by constructing the temporary shelters, without any basic facilities such as electricity, ration card, water etc. As per the request from the Grama Panchayath, on Monday Zilla Panchayath President Katpadi Shakara Poojary and CAO Prabhakara Sharma visited and surveyed the place along with the local Grama Panchayath members.
Prabhakara Sharma instructed the relevant Officers to immediately arrange to admit the children of these families to the selected hostels and arrange for their education. But these displaced Koraga families refused to send their children away and insisted that whatever the situation may be, but they will never stay without their children and all the efforts by the officers to convince them failed.
Katpadi Shankara Poojary said that, even though these road side shelters do not have registered house numbers, they should be issued ration card based on the survey number. The 50 cents land reserved for the shelter by Suzlon Company is remaining without use. Besides the Grama Panchayath identified 50 cents land for the garbage disposal is remaining without using. So there is plan to use the 50 cents land of Suzlon for providing shelter to the displaced families and on this matter discussion will be done with Suzlon Company, he said.
Padubidri Grama Panchayath President Vijayalakshmi Acharya, Vice President Sevanthi Sadashiv, Members; Naveen N. Shetty and Prakash Shetty, Panchayath Development Officer Mamatha Shetty were present on the occasion.
