Mumbai: Monthi Fest Clebrations by Konkan Taram – Jerimeri

Mumbai, 09 Sep 2012: "Konkan Taram (Jerimeri)" a parish association of St. Jude Church Jerimeri Mumbai, Celebrated 21st Annual Nativity Feast ( which is a Mangalore Tradition, widely known as "Monti Fest" in Konkani ) on Sunday, 9th September 2012.

 

The association "KONKAN TARAM - JERIMERI" was formed for Social, Cultural and Liturgical activities in the year 1991 under the leadership of Fr. Paul Rego, strongly supported by Norbert Sequeira, John Mascarenhas and Wilson Pinto and this is the consecutive 21st traditional monti fest celebration at Jerimeri Mumbai.

 

Little Children and tean agers offered flowers to Mother Mary with traditional beautiful hymns ... ‘Sokkod Sangatha Melliam and Moriek Hogollsiam’. New Corns (Novem) were blessed and Solemn High Mass was Celebrated by  Dr.Fr.Charles Vaz SVD., -Director of  Sangeet Abhinay Academy - Gyan Ashram, con-celebrated by  Fr. Nelson Saldanha,- Parish Priest of St. Jude Church.  Enthusiastic parishioners participated in large number with their children.  John Mascarenhas and Benjamin Miranda with their choir group presented a melodious singing and music with newly composed "Taram Gitam Hymns."

 

All readings and prayers of faithful in konkani language were read by tean agers, that reminded the traditional Mangalorean-style of Monti Fest Celebration.  It was quite amazing that English Medium students of Mumbai, like Joyed, Rayan, Lavina, Jovila, Christal, Neslin, Leanne etc., read the readings and prayers in Konkani very fluently and meaningfully.

 

 

Blessed corns, Snacks, sweets, sugarcane and note books  were distributed to all children and parishioners.  Soon after the mass, a felicitation programme was held.  President John Veigas presented flower bouquet to Fr. Nelson Saldanha,  Konkani Choir Master honoured the Chief Guest Dr.Fr.Charles Vaz SVD., Secretary Flora D’Souza presented bouquet to Mrs. Jacintha Coutinho who served St. Jude Parish for last 32 years and taken active part in konkani Choir, as she is shifted to Thane.  Sr. Seema was honoured by George Furtado former President of Konkan Taram. Fr. James D’Silva - Principal of St. Jude School was honoured by Leo D’Souza.

 

SSC toppers like Jenate, Alston, Rommel, Joylyn, Joslyn, Alita, Calvin, Glenshita, Lawrence, Loyston, Valencia, Remita, Oilivia, Melwyn etc who scored more than 70% marks were honoured with a Gift Voucher and Certficate of Appreciation.  Liturgy Secretary Joseph D’Souza and Lawrence D’Souza presented the weekly announcements and John R. Mascarenhas compered the felicitation programme.

 

A grand get together with novem jevann ( Dinner ) was organised by the association.  John Veigas and Flora D’Souza compered the evening programme and Christal, Jovila, Magnus, Magnum and Anselm presented variety entertainment, dance, jokes & games.  Assn. Advisor - Walter D’Souza & Anita D’Souza who celebrated their 26th Wedding Anniversary on 9th Sept., were honoured with a flower bouquet accompanied with a wishing song by all.   The grand celebration of monti fest with 21st Annual Day ended with "Lau da te", Hymn.
