Bellary, 14 Aug 2012: An LKG student was severely injured in the left eye after he was allegedly beaten with a stick by a teacher at a city school on Monday.
The incident came to light on Tuesday and it is said the boy may lose his sight as the cornea has been damaged.
It is said the teacher, Joysa of Makkala Mantapa School on Cumming Road, hit the boy, Mohammed Khader, as he was creating a din along with other students.
This led to bleeding in the eye.
However, the teacher claimed that she did not hit him, but the boy was injured by accident. Head mistress Latha Prasad too claimed that the boy was injured accidentally.
‘May lose sight’
Babu Fakruddin and Jainabi, the boy’s parents, came to know about the incident only at night and they took him to a eye hospital, where the doctor told them that there was an injury to his cornea and that he might lose sight in his eye.
Members of the public alleged that the teachers had hidden the matter from the parents, even though the incident took place in the afternoon.
The poverty-stricken family has sought help from philanthropists to treat the boy.
