Moodubelle, 13 Aug 2012: The first stage of the Grama Sabha for the year 2012-13 of Belle Grama Panchayat that was held in the Panchayat premises on Monday, August 13, 2012 at 10.30 am witnessed noisy scenes as villagers raised a number of issues connected with developmental work in the twin villagers of  Belle and Kattingeri. Henry Alva, Varadraj Kamath and  Sandesh Nayak  pointed out that though the Grama Panchayat  has been collecting  a number of taxes from the shops and residents of Belle township, the administration has not provided any basic  amenities  such as proper drainage and maintenance of the Main Road.  For these queries there was no satisfactory answer from the panchayat administrators.

Mr. K.R. Nayak, SI of Shirva said that there has been wild growth on both sides of the roads within the Belel Panchayat jurisdiction. It is necessary that these shrubs and plants should be cleared at the earliest. Further he said that in spite of bringing these issues in front of the Panchayat administration, no action has been taken.

While Mr. Basavaraj, MESCOM Officer was speaking, one of the villagers, Ivan D’Almeida interrupted him saying that  while MESCOM linesmen cut branches of trees in order to prevent them coming in contact with the live wires, the trees and branches are left  by the side of the road sometimes encroaching on the road thus causing great inconvenience to the vehicles as well as school children.

An appeal signed by 76 villagers of Belle and Kattingeri was handed over  to the Panchayat President outlining various grievances of the villagers. The appeal comprised of the issues related to unrepaired roads and drains, lack of amenities in the Moodubelle township, garbage problem in Santekatte.
