Kundapur: Konkani Rang Vaibhav celebrated at Kambadakone

Kundapur, 13 August 2012: Konkani Rang Vaibhav, the first regional drama festival and Rang Samvaad Cultural Programme jointly sponsored by the Karnataka Sahithya Academy and Uppunda Rang Tarang was organized on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Kambadakone, Kundapur. The cultural programme was inaugurated by the Minister in charge of the Udupi District, Srinivas Poojary by symbolically pouring milk from a small pot.
The programme began with the opening prayer song. In his welcome address, Shri Kasaragod Chinna, President of the Karntaka Konkani Sahithya Academy said that in order to unite Konkani people from different parts of the state and to bring forth the various talents of the Konkani people, especially in the villages, the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy has chalked out a number of programmes particularly in the rural Karnataka.
Speaking after the inauguration of the programme, Minister Srinivas Poojary said that Konkani people irrespective of to which religion or community they belong have achieved great things peacefully. He assured that as a minister he would try to do whatever he could for the promotion of Konkani literature and art. He even spoke few sentences in Konkani.
MLA from Baindoor, K. Lakshminarayan in his address said that Konkani people are God-fearing people as well as disciplined people. Konkani people have contributed greatly in the field of education and said that such people would always get the support from the legislators.
Mrs. Pramila, the senior Akashwani and Doordarshan music artist as well as Bernard J. D’Costa, poet, writer, dramatist and journalist were honoured by Srinivas Poojary by offering them shawl . Kasargod Chinna presented fruits and flowers and Om Ganesh gave away the memento and Kuiladi Suresh Nayak presented the citation. While MLA Lakshminarayan garlanded Bernard J. D’Costa, Academy member Mrs. Sheela Nayak garlanded Mrs. Pramila. Musician Sriinvas Prabhu introduced bot5h Mrs. Pramila and Bernanrd J. D’Costa.
President of Kundapura Municipal Council, Mohan Shenoy in his speech said that while the government spends a lot of money on various issues, for the work of promoting Konkani people have to run from pillar to post. He said that government should provide a vehicle to the Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy. He also said that Om Ganesh is not only a Konakni but also a world renowned magician who should be considered for Rajya Prashasthi and Bernard J. D’Costa should be considered for Zilla Prashasthi. He made an appeal to the minister to use his good office in this regard.
Another guest, Ramachandra Prabhu Uppunda (Raichur) appreciated the cultural programme organized on this occasion and wished the organizers well. Rev. fr. Francis Cornelio, Praish Priest of Baindoor said that Konkani language is written in five scripts, an honour which no other language can boast of. He appealed the people to work for the promotion of Konkani.
Members of the academy, Roy Castelino, Ashok Sheth and Ashok Bhandary were present for the programme. The programme was compeered by Om Ganesh and Dr. B. Devdas Pai, Registrar of the academy proposed the vote of thanks.
On the first day of the two days programme, artists from the Baindoor Parish staged short Konkani play “Swarthi Sansar”, written and directed by Martin Everest and the artists from Shri Venkataramana Seva Samithi presented “Ghadiyek Ek Fotim”, written and directed by Shri Prabhu Uppunda.
