Treating Women as Inferior is a clear Violation of Human Rights- Justice S. R. Nayak

Udupi,24 July 2012: “Treating women as inferior is a clear violation of their human rights. Women have full protection of the law to enjoy their rights in the society. They should realise this and make use of the opportunities provided to them to achieve their goals”, exhorted Justice S. R. Nayak, president of the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission. He was delivering the inaugural address on Sunday, 22nd July during the distribution of student scholarships and aid to poor Yakshagana artistes organised by The G. Shankar Family Trust (R), Udupi. He was delighted to note that majority of the scholarship recipients were girls and that given an opportunity, women are capable of changing this world. He also said that achievers do not need accolades. They are honoured because by doing so they become a role model for others to imitate.
In his introductory speech, director of the trust Dr. G. Shankar, pointed out how for the last ten years the trust has organised society oriented programmes and that for this year they have a target of distributing ten thousand health insurance cards and organising blood donation drives to collect about 10 thousand units of blood. During the programme well known Ayurvedic scholar Dr. Gururaj Bhagwath honoured highest scoring students of the district Ms K. Anusha Nayak (Kannada Medium), Ms Akshata (English Medium), Ms Vidya Kamath (PUC Science), Ms Preethi Kamath (Commerce), Ms Padmini Jain (Arts) and also 3000 students who got above 85% marks. A dozen poor yakshagana artistes of the undivided districts also were given financial aid.
Sri. Prathap Reddy, Inspector General of Police Western Range, Mangalore, who presided over said that only through that kind of activities social welfare is possible. District police chief, Dr Boralingiah M. B. and district fishermen’s youth organisation president, Sri. Jaya C. Kotian, were the chief guests. S. K.
