Hijab row: Dakshina Kannada DC to seek government’s directions
Mangalore, 18 Jul 2012: With a view to finding a solution to the recurring instances of Hijab issue in the district every year, the Dakshina Kannada District Administration has decided to seek directions from the state government to resolve it.
DK Deputy Commissioner NS Channappa Gowda told that the district administration has no role to play in this regard. I will write to the government on Thursday requesting them to issue guidelines and resolve this issue,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, unmindful of the threat of protest by Campus Front of India regarding the Hijab row, the management and principals of many colleges in Dakshina Kannada has decided not to budge to the threat.
Urimajalu Ram Bhat, honorary president of Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha, who headed the meeting on Tuesday told TOI: We are against any protest regarding this issue. We will not yield to pressure. We will also tell the government not to entertain this issue.’’
The meeting was attended by 93 representatives of 52 PU and Degree colleges in DK at Puttur near here. Bhat said the implementation of dress code in colleges was not to hurt any person’s religious feelings. It is an attempt to bring about a feeling of oneness irrespective of economic and social status.
Bhat said already many students who had taken part in this protest were attending classes which were a sign that there was no widespread support for the issue. Those parents who want their wards to get good education should not fall prey to such tactics, he added.

1. I watch RSS boss in DK, Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, denounce Christian schools for above knee skirts the girls wear. He wants the girls to cover up. 2.The CFI, DFI and all fronts, meaning Muslim groups, want their girls to cover fully. 3. I am confused. RSS and Muslim groups want one and the same and still they are sworn opponents! |
