Mangalore: St. Agnes College organizes one day Seminar on 60 Years of Karnataka Legislative Assembly

Mangalore,08 July 2012: Department of Political Science of St. Agnes College Mangalore organized One Day Seminar on “Sixty Years of Karnataka Legislative Assembly” on Saturday, July 7, 2012.
The inaugural function was presided over by Dr. Sr. M. Prem D’Souza, Principal of St. Agnes College and the Seminar was inaugurated by B.H. Shankara Moorthy, Chairmanb of Karnatalka State Legislative Council. During the function Mrs. Shakuntala Shetty, Former MLA of Puttur and Mrs. Mallika Prasad, present MLA of Puttur. Special recognition was accorded to Mr. U.T. Khader, MLA from Mangalore.
After inaugurating the Seminar, Mr. Shankar Moorthy said that sixty years of the Legislative Assembly of Karnataka have been the glorious years though there were certain ups and downs. These years have been a witness to the triumph of democracy in the state. The Legislative Assembly had taken up important issues and have enacted and amended many laws.
Later in the evening, participating in the valedictory function, Mr. Siddharamiah, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly said that explained to the students the meaning of democracy, the extent of the Karnataka state and his experience in politics. He urged the students to participate in political activities of the state and contribute in building a democratic society.
