Manipal: Locals Demand Closure of CCCL Ready-mix Plant

Manipal, 23 June 2012: The local people and people’s representatives conducted a protest meeting on Thursday for the closure of CCCL Ready-mix plant which is being established in Kanchinabailu of Athradi Hirebettu Grama Panchayath area. To start any business Panchayath permission is required. But this company is illegally established here and the dust emitted from the concrete mixing work, about 500 acres of agricultural land will be destroyed and it will affect the health of people. Besides with the regular running of the company vehicles the condition of the roads have become worst. This company has to be closed immediately, otherwise serious protest will be conducted, warned the protesters.
On this occasion the Company Divisional Officer Laxminarayan who arrived there to the meeting spoke and said that the land where the Company is located, belongs to Manipal University and as per the permission of the University the company has been established. But after the protest from the people, it has been planned to shift this company and another land has been requested with the University and until then the mixing work of concrete has been stopped, he said.
The protest was led by former Minister from Congress Vasantha Saliyan, Athradi Hirebettu Grama Panchayath President Sharad Shetty, Vice President Kusuma Poojary, Alevoor Grama Panchayath President Harish Kini, Kodibettu Grama Panchayath President Sundara Sherigar, Vice President Laxminarayana Prabhu, BJP Jilla Panchayath Member Upendra Nayak, local leaders Shivaprasad Hegde, Prabhakara Hegde, Varadaraja Hegde, Prashanth Hegde and others.
