Udupi Town Hall may get ready by May

Udupi, 22 April 2012: It is wedding season and booking a hall for wedding would cost nothing less than Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 in Udupi. Further, if the hall is an air conditioned, plush looking one then the tariffs will shoot up accordingly.

 

Now, an air-conditioned, spacious hall will be available in Udupi at just Rs 30,000. Thanks to the thoughtfulness of City Municipal Council. It is said that the newly renovated Town Hall will be ready to flaunt its modern look soon and this new Town Hall will be available to public to hold various programmes at Rs 30,000.

 

 

The old building of Town Hall was situated at Ajjarkad in Udupi and the City Municipal Council decided to give the Town Hall a facelift in 2010. The Council decided that it will not just be a facelift but the entire feature of the structure will be changed so as to suite the changing trends and tastes of the people.

 

Accordingly the renovation work was started in November, 2010. Nirmiti Kendra was given the responsibility of the civil work.

 

About 90 per cent of the work has been completed and if sources are to be believed then the Town Hall will be complete by May 12 or 13. It is said that Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda will inaugurate the building.

 

Municipal Commissioner Gokuladas Nayak said that the rent of the building will be fixed in the Council meet but according to sources in the CMC the tariff will be fixed in a such a way that it will not be a burden on the users and as of now, the Council had decided to keep the tariff at Rs 30,000.

 

Speaking to CMC President Kiran Kumar said that the Town Hall has been renovated in such a way that it has received modern architectural touch. “Since it is a fully air-conditioned structure, the tariff and all other aspects have been worked out scientifically. Ultimately our aim is to help the people and not levy burden on them,” said the President.

 

The structure will have an area of 15,000 sqft and air conditions of total 140 tonne capacity have been installed for the entire structure. As many as 800 cushion chairs have been placed for the seating arrangement.

 

Balconies of the building too have 250 seats. Granites have been used for flooring and 180 kw generator has been installed. The Town hall can be used for wedding, theatre, and cultural programmes.

 

All in all the Town Hall will be nothing less than an ornate in the temple town.
