Abu Dhabi: Al Jazira Toastmasters Gavel Wing holds contest

Abudhabi,01 April 2012: When most folks in Abu Dhabi were enjoying the second part of their weekend on 31st March 2012, 30  kids brimming with energy were competing with each other to bring out the best speaker among them and to lay their hands on  the winner’s trophy at 2 different speech categories at the Al Jazira Gavel Club.

 

Al Jazira Gavel club is the gavel club wing of the Al Jazira Toastmasters, Abu Dhabi and they were having their second annual club speech contest.

 

The day started with Gav. Harshil opening the meeting and handing over the lectern to the coordinator MTM Shuchita.  She introduced the judges who came from various toastmasters clubs to judge the kids on the public speaking skills.  The judges were TM Farrukh Ali, TM Anil Pinto, TM Sohail Pedari, TM Sunil Kottarathil, TM Mony and TM Anil Akkineni all of them respected toastmasters from the Abu Dhabi toastmasters fraternity.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

There were two categories of speech contests held, the first being, humorous speech contest, where emphasis was given of how funny a speech can be and how the audience will respond to the presentation.  Gav. Rushali was the compere for this event and she introduced the 7 gaveliers who were ready to tickle the funny bone of the audience, Gav. Shiva, Gav. Vaanmathi, Gav. Sanjitha, Gav. Freya, Gav. Saptarshi, Gav. Lindsay and Gav. Kabinthra.  It was a session filled with funny and creative concepts from the imaginative minds of these gaveliers who made sure each presentation was very different and funnier than the other.

 

After the funny session of the humorous speeches it was time for the next session, which was exactly opposite to the previous session.  It was time for the evaluation session where one gavelier would give a test speech and all contestants participating in the evaluation session would evaluate that speech.  This session was compered by Gav. Deeksha and she introduced the test speaker as Gav. Soujanya.  She gave a power packed speech on one of the most relevant topic of the day ‘The Earth Hour’.  This speech was then evaluated by 7 gaveliers, Gav. Shwetha, Gav. Anusha, Gav. Freya, Gav. Shiva, Gav. Harshil, Gav. Nidhi and Gav. Roshni.  All contestants gave effective evaluations on what they loved about Gav. Soujanya’s presentation and improvement points if any.

 

The audience which included other gaveliers and some parents enjoyed both sessions and there was so much of experience gained on public speaking just by watching these brilliant gaveliers create magic on stage.

 

It was time for felicitation of all role players and judges and it was done by TM Derick Dsouza, the coordinator of Al Jazira Gavel Club.  He thanked all judges who took the time out from their busy schedule and helped the club in picking up the top 3 speakers in each category.  All role players (Gav. Ariz, Gav. Aurelle, Gav. Neha Rao, Gav. Jai, Gav. Aditya, Gav. Pavan, Gav. Shreyas, Gav. Neha Nayak, Gav. Diya, Gav. Apoorva) were given participation certificates for helping out the club in organizing this event.  TM Derick also thanked Mangalorean.com and specifically Mr. Alphonso Mendonca for covering this important event.

 

Finally, it was time for the results, in the Humorous Speech category the top 3 places were grabbed up by Gav. Kabinthra (Winner), Gav. Sanjitha (Runner Up) and Gav. Vaanmathi (Second Runner Up).  In the evaluation contest the top 3 spots were grabbed up by Gav. Harshil (Winner), Gav. Nidhi (Runner Up) and Gav. Roshni (Second Runner Up).

 

Gav. Shiva, president of Al Jazira Gavel Club thanked everyone for making this event a bright and colourful one. TM Derick D’Souza, main coordinator Al Jazira Gavel club was well pleased with the standard of speeches which were  raising the bar of excellence year after year. 

 

The curtains came down on the exciting speech sessions with everyone present, left with high spirits and truly witnessed a fantastic speech contest with the top 2 winners getting ready to fight it out at the higher level of Inter Gavel Club contest in the second week of May 2012.
