Two Out Of Three MLAs Let Off In Karnataka Porngate Case

Bangalore, 20 March 2012: Of the three former BJP ministers facing allegations of viewing porn clips in the assembly, only one is likely to face action. The other two may be let off due to lack of evidence, reports Hindustan Times.

 

On Monday, the House committee that probed the February 7 incident submitted its report, which will be discussed in the House, to speaker KG Bopiah.

 

The report gave a clean chit to CC Patil and Krishna J Palemar. Lakshmana Savadi was the only one to be indicted.

On Monday, the House committee that had probed the February 7 incident, submitted its report to Assembly speaker KG Bopiah. The report gave a clean chit to CC Patil and Krishna J Palemar. Lakshmana Savadi alone was indicted.

 

On February 7, former ministers Savadi and Patil were caught on television cameras watching obscene visuals on a cellphone, which had been allegedly provided by Palemar.

 

Sources said the committee has enough evidence that merits action against Savadi.

 

The chairperson of the panel, Shrishailappa Bidarur, told media that he has submitted a 38-page report to the Speaker, which will be tabled before the assembly for discussion.

 

The Speaker had constituted a seven-member House panel, comprising four members from BJP, two from Congress and one from JDS to probe the episode. But the opposition had boycotted the committee, alleging that the move is an exercise to cover up the scandal. They have maintained that there was no need for a probe, as the three legislators have admitted to their actions.

 

The committee had summoned representatives of two television channels and the three MLAs and recorded their statements.

 

The Speaker has recently had said the three MLAs facing the allegations will not be allowed to attend the budget session, which begins on Tuesday.

 

The MLAs will be allowed to enter assembly only after the committee report is tabled and action against them is announced.
