Exciting Limited Overs Cricket Tournament at Kodangala

Moodubelle, 19 April 2010: A large number of enthusiastic cricket lovers, young and old of Kodnagala and surrounding regions witnessed an exciting final match between two of the 16 Cricket teams that participated in the first ever limited overs Cricket tournament at Kodnagala organised by the Shri Ram Cricketers for the Shri Ram Trophy 2010 on Sunday, 18th April 2010 from 8am to 6pm.
The limited overs Cricket tournament was inaugurated in the morning at 8am by Vasant Salian, ex-MLA from Kaup. The other dignitaries who were present for the inauguration included: Vasant Poojary, Udupi Taluk Panchayat Member, Manohar Marathe of the Meenakshi Enterprisers, Udupi, Vithal Nayak of Shri Ram Bhajan Mandali, Kodnagal. These dignitaries formally inaugurated the tournament by lighting the lamp.
Sixteen enthusiastic teams from different regions from Alvevooru, Moodubelle, Kemthoor, Marne, Arbi, Gudde Angadi, Thokoli and other places participated in the tournament. A large crowd of cricket enthusiast were present at the venue to cheer the competing teams.
The tournament comprised of four overs to be played by each team and winners were decided on the basis of highest scores in four overs. The final match was of five overs for each team. After the elimination rounds, the Mahaganapati team of Patla and Navodaya Friends Team of Gudde Angadi-Rampura were in the final.
The exciting part of the tournament was that in the final match between the Navodaya Friends and Mahaganapati teams, the Navodaya Friends team played first and scored 21 runs in five overs. In reply the Mahaganapati team had to score two runs in the last ball of the fifth over for winning the match. However, the Mahaganapati team scored a single run in the last ball and the match ended with a tie. At the end, as per the rules of the tournament, the winner and runner up were decided by the toss of the coin. As per the result of the toss of the coin, the Mahaganapati Team of Patla was declared as the runner up and got Rs.1555/- as prize money and Navodya Friends Team of Gudde Angadi-Rampura was declared as the champions of the tournament and won Rs.3333/- as prize money. Sagar of Mahaganapati Team, Patla was declared as the ‘Man of the Series’.
The valedictory and prize distribution function was held at 6pm which was attended by Harish Serigar, Ex-President of Alevooru Grama Panchayat, Anil Devadiga of Kanaradi, Raghuvira Shettigar of Kodangala and Sudarshan Balakrishna.

Good coverage of the tournament by Mr. Anil Alva. Final match ending up with a tie and had to decide on toss is rare. Congratulations to the organizers and all the participants. These Village tournaments will produce great players some day. |
