Udupi: Nagarika Samiti protest foreign culture in Island festival

Udupi, 08 February 2012: The foreign culture which was displayed in the island festival at St. Mary’s island has been rejected even by some foreigners too. The Udupi Nagarika Samiti had conducted a protest on Monday at Rathabeedi with a attempt to save the Indian culture which is diminishing these days and in this protest some foreign women who were in Rathabeedi also joined them and spoke on behalf of the protest.

 

 
A doll of woman was taken in a procession in Kanakadasa road, and as per the Indian culture, flowers and bangles were placed to it and the foreign woman herself placed Bindi on the doll’s forehead. This symbolic protest was conducted to show how the Indian culture is diminishing and the need to save it.
 
Speaking on the occasion the European woman Chandramohini from Lithuania who is a follower of Iskan said that, the Indian culture is God’s culture and there is nothing better than this, which teaches us to wear dress to cover the whole body and move around decently. But leaving this aside, following the foreign culture which encourages to wear half naked cloths and spoiling the society is not appropriate, she said.
 
Jilla Nagarika Samiti Chief Secretary Nithyananda Olakadu spoke and said that, it is not right on the part of the administration making provision for women to dress half naked like this and attract the foreigners to the St. Mary’s island. Women are insulted this way and we do not need the tourism through such low culture, he said.
 
In this protest, the members of the Samiti Ramesh Shettigar, Ramadevi, Prabha Shetty, Shanthi, Shaila, Prabhakara Kaup and many followers of Iskan had participated.
