Manipal Family felicitates employees with 25 years of service and scholars

Manipal, January 28 2012: Manipal University felicitated 88 employees who completed 25 years of blemish less service, on Republic Day, here at Fortune Inn Valley View. Also, the students who did well at the entrance exams 2011 and became eligible for freeship were honoured.They, Manipal Scholars as they are called, were given certificates of recognition for excelling in the exams.

 

On the occasion, the Kadambi award for the best all-round students one each from the Health Sciences and Technology were conferred and the best poster awards were also given away to three students, one each from Health Sciences, Technology and Management.  The ISO certification 9001 and 14001 were also presented to the heads of institutions.

Manipal University celebrates the “Family Day” on January 26 every year. Vice Chancellor, Dr K Ramnarayan welcomed the gathering to the Manipal Family Day and Pro Chancellor Dr H.S. Ballal spoke on each award and the felicitation to the employees. The Chancellor, Dr Ramdas M Pai gave the felicitation address and Registrar Dr G.K. Prabhu the vote of thanks.

 

To encourage students excel in academics and sports for an all-round growth, Mr. Rajagopal Kadambi, the chairman of the Kadambi foundation instituted the Kadambi Scholarship in 2003-04.  The award comprises a certificate and cash prize of Rs. 30, 000. It is given to two students, one from the health science category and the other from the Technical side.

 

This year Laxmi Jayaram from K.M.C, Mangalore and Deepa Putran from MIT, Manipal were selected for the prestigious award. Laxmi with an excellent academic record also excelled in basketball and Deepa shone in shuttle badminton just as she did in academics.

With the objective of attracting brilliant students, Manipal University introduced freeship for students with academic excellence from 2006. The scheme covers the entire course fee, including tuition and other fees for the first year. However, freeship in the subsequent years is based on the performance of a student in the university examinations.

 

In the last 6 years, University has spent around Rs 18.2 crores towards freeship for 301 students. For the 2011-12 admissions, a total of 67 students have received freeship; MBBS: 17; BDS: 04; B Tech: 44 and B Pharma: 02

 

The ISO certification in Manipal University started in 2003 when Purchase department became the first to be certified for ISO 9001 for implementing Quality Management System. It was followed by certification of eight constituent institutions, Kasturba Hospital and the University between 2003-2010.

 

Also, in 2007 all the constituent institutions in Manipal and the University were certified for ISO 14001 for implementing Environmental Management System.  In 2011, a team of auditors from TUV Rheinland audited the University and the constituent institutions for the integrated management system and reported compliance to the standards and recommended the university and its constituent institutions for certification. These certificates were distributed to the heads of institutions.

 

To encourage research in the University, a poster presentation competition is held and one best poster in the Health Sciences and one in Engineering are awarded. Pranita Pai of Manipal Life Science Centre got it in the former category while Indira K.P. from the department of Mathematics, MIT and Kamat Dataguru Vinayak, MIT shared it in the latter category.
