Rs 5 lakhs raised for Sasthan Parish during 31st Wilson Olivera Nite

Mumbai, 13 Jan 2012: Konkani Sangeeth Sardar Wilson Olivera’s 31st musical nite held on Wednesday January 4 at Sastan Church premises was indeed a refreshing start to the New Year for all the parishioners of Sastan as well as neighbouring parishes. Konkani music lovers from Byndoor to Kallianpur, nearly 1,300 in number, were gathered to witness and enjoy the musical nite filled with foot tapping music and rib-tickling comedy.

 

This musical nite was staged as a fund raiser to support the development of Sastan parish on the occasion of the annual feast (Vodlem Fest). The parish committee in association with Terence and Sharmila Lewis, Sastan / Abu Dhabi (main sponsors of the event) left no stone unturned in raising sufficient funds for the parish. The church committee handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lac to Fr Valerian Fernandes on this occasion.

 

The occasion also marked the release of Wilson Olivera’s 6th musical album, ’Oh Mhojea Bhangara’. Fr Valerian Fernandes, parish priest of St Antony’s church, Sastan officially released the album along with event sponsor Terence and Sharmila Lewis. The parishioners also took this opportunity to felicitate Wilson Olivera for his immense contribution to Konkani music.

 

 

The show began with a curtain raiser from the composition of Wilson Olivera ’Punvecho Chondrem’ followed by which Wilson welcomed his music fans assuring the best of entertainment for the rest 3 hours. The master of ceremony for the evening, Ronald Olivera, younger brother of Wilson, engaged the crowd and kept them asking for more. The combination of these brothers added more flavour to the show with their oratory and singing skills.

 

The first song of the evening, ’Mhojea Jeevant’, was a solo number from young artist Prajoth D’Sa which was then followed by a sentimental number ’Pauxillea Deesacho Vell’ from the new album, sung by Ivy D’souza.

 

Wilson is known for composing songs depicting real life situations and this time around he brought to limelight the worries of business men through his song ’Buisness Ghalo’.

 

This was not all, this high voltage entertainment also featured other popular numbers; ’Priya’ sung by Pradeep Pinto,’Sahayak Vigar’ by Zeena Pereira, ’Kitem Korum’ by Prashanth Pinto and ’Oh Mhojea Bhangara’ by Rony Crasta. On the other hand, romantic duets ’Saat Doryam Poltodi’ by Wilson and Zeena and ’Yo moga Yo’ by Prajoth and Ivy filled the ambience with love, while ‘Nach Sobhann’, the famous dance troupe led by renowned choreographer Avil D’cruz from Mangalore kept the audience spell bound by their astounding moves.

 

On public demand, the song ’Mamma’ was presented by Pradeep and Prashanth.Other numbers that filled the evening were ’ Gulfagaar’, ‘Konkangaar’, ‘Ghadta Kitem’ and ‘Tum Chedum Konnachem’. Soulful music was rendered by music maestro, Adrian Gomes who flew all the way from Kuwait to score music for the evening. He is associated with Wilson Olivera since a decade, supporting his musical shows in the Gulf region. Adrian has also arranged music for his 3rd and 4th albums recorded in Kuwait.

 

 

The other attractions of the evening also featured the well-known comedy group ’Bindaas Pernal’ along with Santhosh D’Souza of Radio Spice fame, Dubai and Nishanth D’Souza who added a touch of delightful humour with their stand-up comedy.

 

Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief of Daijiworld.com, the chief guest of the evening in his address said, "Wilson’s songs and lyrics are of great quality and remind the listener of the late Wilfy Rebimbus." Wishing good luck to Wilson, he desired to see Wilson’s 50th musical show staged in a year’s time with the same support and love from his fans.
