Moodubelle: NSS Camp of St. Mary’s College, Shirva Inaugurated in St. Lawrence PU College

Moodubelle, 26 December 2011: The seven day long camp of NSS volunteers from St. Mary’s College, Shirva was inaugurated in St. Lawrence PU College Hall on Monday, December 26, 2011 at 3 pm. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions presided over the programme. Devdas Hebbar, President of  Udupi Taluk Panchayat formally  inaugurated the camp by lighting the lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais who included Fr. Lancy Saldanha-Principal of St. Lawrence English Medium High School, Raphael Aranha-Headmaster of Chruch Aided Higher Primary School and winner of Rashtra Prashasthi, Dr. John Clarence Miranda-Principal of St. Mary’s College, Prof. Ronald Joseph Moras-Chief Camp Officer and NSS leaders- Deepak and Jennifer Alva.

 

In his introductory and welcome address, Prof. Moras traced the growth of NSS at the national level since its inception in 1969 and explained the aims and objectives of this premier  organisation and its role in shaping the personality and developing a sense of service among the students. 

After formally inaugurating the NSS Camp, Devdas Hebbar as the past students and NSS volunteer of St. Mary’s College recalled his own days  in various camps at local and national level and reminded the students what all advantages that he could obtain from those camps. He further said that if he had achieved some success in social work and political field, it chiefly due to the discipline and the sense of service that he had imbibed in himself as NSS student. He appealed the NSS volunteers to take full advantage of the camp and achieve success in life.

 

Fr. Lancy Saldanha, Raphael Aranha and Dr. J.C. Miranda speaking at this occasion wished success to the camp.  In his presidential address, Fr. Joswey Fernandes highlighted the need to develop an attitude of live and let others also live peacefully. He said that living in camps help students to understand each other and live in harmony and cooperation.

 

Ms. Rajashri Nayak, lecturer and NSS Camp officer  proposed the vote of thanks and  Ms. Pramita Rodrigues compeered the programme.

 

The NSS camp with 52 volunteers will continue up to January1, 2012. Besides the regular routine and social service, the students will have awareness lectures from knowledgeable resource persons. The students will also present cultural programmes in the evening.

 

Dr. Rajeshwari Koradkal of Aruna Clinic Moodubelle is the medical officer for the NSS Camp.
