Library Fest 2011- at Yenapoya School Mangalore

Mangalore, 27 November 2011: The Yenepoya School at Jeppinamogaru, Mangalore hosted Library Fest 2011 on 18th & 19th November 2011 at their school premises, in association with ‘The Prism Books Pvt Ltd.’, Bangalore.

 

The ‘Library Fest’ was inaugurated by Mr. Ronald Anil Fernandes, Principal Correspondent, Deccan Herald and the function was presided over by Mr. Farhaad Yenepoya, the Managing Director of The Yenepoya School.   Mr. Fernandes, appreciated the unique idea on the part of The Yenepoya School to organize such a ‘fest’ which would have a fantastic repercussion by way of inculcating reading habits in children.    Mr. Farhaad Yenepoya expressed his happiness at the overwhelming response of so many schools all over, and attributed all the success to the Principal of the School, Dr. C K Manjunath. 

 

 

This being the “International year of Forests’, to raise awareness on sustaibale management, conservation and development of all types of forests, various Inter School Events based on ‘Save Forests’ theme were conducted.   18 schools from Mangalore participated.   The best 3 in Drawing activity (Grade 1 to 3) are: Spoorthi (Presidency School), Sathvik (Kanachur Public School) and Shawn D’sa (St. Aloysius School).   Best 3 in Essay Writing event for Grade 4 & 5 are: Kripa Maria (St. Gerosa School), Gautham Rao (St. Aloyius Higher Primary School) and Smruthi Ganesh (Sharada Vidyalaya).   Best 3 in Elocution event (Gr 6 & 7) are:  Saad Yenepoya (The Yenepoya School), Saniha Rai (Sharada Vidyaniketan Public School), Arzoo Ahmed (The Yenepoya School) and Michelle Gloria Tauro (St. Agnes School).    In Debating (Grade 8 to 10) the teams of Jayashree B and Shreya Poojary (Besant English Medium School), Shreyas D and Adnan (Sharada Vidyaniketan) and Prabath & Chaitanya (Jawahar Navodaya School) were the best 3.  In Poster making (for Grade 8 to 10), teams of Shrivalli and Meghan (Cambridge School), Lubna and Reema (The Yenepoya School) and Guru Saurav and Dhanush (Besant English School) were the best 3.   Mrs. Severine Rosario, Principal, MICE, gave away the certificates and mementoes to the best students during the valedictory function. 

 

A workshop for teachers and librarians of different schools was conducted on 19th November by Resource Team of noted environmentalist, Mr. Suresh Heblikars – ‘Eco-Watch’.    Mr. Ullas Kumar RK, spoke at large on the various facts, and threats on environment followed by small documentaries related with environment, which was enlightening to those present at the workshop.  They requested to conduct more such workshops by The Yenepoya School.   The guest of the day was Mrs. Rohini K., District Information Officer, Government of Karnataka, who spoke on her experiences at school and the impact of teachers on a student’s life.
