Kuwait: Sharq United Lift KCWA Cricket Cup in a Hat-trick Win

Kuwait, 20 November 2011: The Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA), held "KCWA Cricket Cup 2011" for the fourth year in succession on Friday, November 18, on the KOC Grounds, Ahmadi. A total of 10 teams participated in the 8 overs-a-side tournament, which was held exclusively for KCWA members.
Defending champions “Sharq United” retained the trophy for the third consecutive year by winning the thrilling final. It is worth mentioning here that the team Sharq United has been into all the four finals so far, only to miss out the winner’s trophy in their first outing.
The tournament began with president of KCWA Stephen Machado welcoming the teams and guests. The teams were divided into two groups with top two teams in each group played the semi-finals.
In the exhilarating Semi-finals Sharq United beat KICC-B by 14 runs and Udupi Friends beat Mangalore Friends by 15 runs. In the thrilling and closely contested Finals Sharq United successfully defended their title by beating the enthusiastic Udupi Friends by 5 runs.

The concluding ceremony was held in the presence Pascal Pinto (former president of KCWA) and KOC Cricket Committee officials Iqbal Vanu, Mohammed Sarwar and Shubrath, who along with former presidents Jossie Pinto, Rudy D’Souza and sponsors of the event distributed trophies and medallions to the winners and match officials. A lucky draw was held for all the people gathered at the event. Dr Manohar Prabhu conducted the prize distribution ceremony.
Archie Menezes was the match referee. Rudy D’Souza, Wilfred Lobo, Deepak and Prashanth D’souza did the announcements and commentary. Anand D’Souza and Lancy Rodrigues provided the audio system. Breakfast and lunch was served by M&M Confectionery. Dr Manohar Prabhu, Naveen Mascarenhas and Alex Rego coordinated the successful event and were ably supported by other KCWA committee members.
