Udupi, 26 October 2011: The problems of the people, farmers and the people of rural areas of our district never seem to end. First it was Nagarjuna company, Lanko company, then Suzlon company and now it is the Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited (I.S.P.R.L.) project from the central government has stepped into the district. All these are being established in and around Padubidri and the people of the tens of villages in the surrounding areas have lost their sleep and the problems have become routine for them.
Udupi Deputy Commisioner Dr. M.T. Reju made a visit to this place and listened to the grievances of the local people regarding their problems there and not only that, he instructed the Project Officers to resolve these problems immediately. After this unit has been established the surrounding villages are faced with daily problems. The workers who arrived from the outer states are causing fear to the local women.
A main road passing through this project site has been cut without providing an alternative road making it difficulties to travel and it has become inevitable for people to take a longer route with additional 4 – 5 kilometer distance. The local’s agricultural land has been acquired and the compensation offered by the project officers is too low. So the locals urged the Deputy Commissioner that, compensation with the market rate has to be provided and those families who are affected should be given jobs.
On this occasion Company Officer Veerabhadrappa spoke and said that public problems will be given priority. Basic facility will be given more priority. Shirva – Shanthigudde – Majoor road will be constructed in next May 2012. The workers of the outer states will be strictly warned not to make any trouble. Local villages will be provided with the basic provisions, he said.
Replying to the accusation that the Padur – Thokoru pipeline survey has been done unscientifically, Veerabhadrappa said that, already the survey is conducted, instead of this the survey will be re conducted and attempt will be made to save as many buildings as possible in this project, he said. DC along with the people’s representatives visited the project site and reviewed the work progress and expressed appreciation.
Along with Deputy Commissioner, Jilla Panchayath President Katapadi Shakara Poojary, Taluk Panchayath President Devadas Hebbar, Jilla Panchayath Member Arun Shetty Padur, Taluk Panchayath Member Anita Shetty, Majoor Grama Panchayath President Ganesh Shetty, Subrahmanya Aythal, Dr. N.S.
