Udupi: Traditional products in offer at “Namma Angadi”

Udupi, 24 October 2011: Multinational companies are succeeding in selling their products in India with their marketing tricks. In order to market our traditional rural products manufactured by the hereditary professionals we need to implement the marketing tricks, said Udupi Municipal Paurayukta Gokuldas Nayak. He was speaking upon inaugurating the 3 days long Handicraft Exhibition Fair “Namma Angadi” conducted by Kundapura Namma Bhumi, on Friday at Board High School Udupi.

 


 
Speaking further he said that, The low quality goods coming from China has easily dominated the market and hence our traditional handicrafts have been swept aside. This is not a good development. With the good marketing strategy our traditional handicrafts can compete with the products from China and can reach to the consumers, he said.
 
Chief Guest of the inaugural program Manipal Power Club President Sadhana Kini speaking on the occasion said that, youths should team up and organize to market the rural handicrafts, this becomes a good employment to the young generation and at the same time the hereditary professionals will also have an livelihood, she said.
 
Shivananda Shetty of Namma Bhumi spoke and said that, when the rural handicrafts are purchased the money paid for it goes directly to the development of the rural areas and by this way it becomes possible for the rural area to get developed. Wilma Serrao of Namma Angadi welcomed the guests and also compeered the program. Laxmi Shenoy proposed vote of thanks. Yakshagana and musical concerts were organized in the evening.
 
The handicrafts manufactured by the Namma Bhumi organization will be on exhibition for 3 days and the items are for sale. Khadi cloths for men, women and children, wooden toys, preserved eatables, brass articles manufactured by Bastar community, wooden items for kitchen.... such tens of handicraft items are available here. Various design Diwali soil hanging lamps, statues of Gods are the main attraction of this Angadi. There are also wooden furniture and fertilizers available.
