Dubai: Emirates Identity Card mandatory in U.A.E.

Dubai, 22 September 2011: In a full page advertisement, the government of the UAE have advised the residents of the Emirates to register themselves for the Emirates Identity Card and if their ID has expired, they should renew it immediately to avoid penalties which will be AED 20 per day or a maximum of AED 1,000. Briefly, what the advertisement tells us is:
 
1.    Delay in registration or issuance of the ID Card
2.    Delay in renewing the ID Card (30 days after expiry date)
3.    Delay in reporting any data change (30 days after the change date)
 
For the above delays AED 20 per day or a maximum of AED 1,000 will apply.
 
Dates of applying delay charges:
1/11/2011: for all UAE nationals
1/12/2011: for all government and semi-government employees (federal and local) and their families.
1/12/2011: Residents of the following Northern Emirates (Umm Al-Quwain, Al Fujairah, Raas Al- Khaimah and Ajman).
1/2/2012: Residents of the Emirate of Sharjah.
1/4/2012: Residents of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
1/6/2012: Residents of the Emirate of Dubai.
 
Note: delay charges will be charged for children under 15 only after 15/10/2012.
 
Delay charges will be applied to all expired ID cards as of Nov. 1, 2011.
 
Delay charges will be applied if a residency visa is issued or renewed without registration in the ID card as of Jan. 1, 2012.
 
Required documents for residents:
Original valid passport
Residency visa or entry permit
 
Children below 15 years:
A 4.5 x 3.5 cm photo with white background.

Residency visa or entry permit
 
Fees:
AED 100 for issuance and renewal of ID card for each year of residency
AED 300 for re-issuance/replacement of damaged or lost ID cards
AED 150 for data update that requires new ID card issuance with same expiry date
AED 150 for issuance and renewal on a urgent basis
 
The above fees apply to all age groups.
 
Fee exemptions apply to people under the social security and those with disabilities and autism.
 
Fee exemptions do not apply if mobile vehicle is requisitioned or urgent service is required.
 
Points to remember:
Typing fee at the authorised typing centre is AED 30/- only
Keep your application form receipt
Do not leave your passport with typing centre under any circumstances
Fee to modify an application is AED 5/-  if done by a different typing centre
Children under 15 years need not visit either the typing centre or the service points
 
Finally, to have an Emirates ID Card, all you have to do is visit an authorised typing centre, register yourself and your family members, wait for an SMS from the selected service point, visit the service point on the appointed day, and let them take your finger prints and photograph and wait for ID card to arrive.
