Udupi, 12 September 2011: The hundreds of gypsy tribal communities in the state shall be gathered together at a place and a united gypsy community shall be formed so that it will help their social – administrative identity. Later it’s district units shall be formed, said Dr. C.S. Dwarakanath – President of the committee of backward communities. He was speaking in Udupi upon inaugurating the debate on the social and administrative classification and reservation of Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribes, conducted by Karnataka Dalitha Sangharsha Samithi, on Sunday.
The committee for backward communities has identified and listed about 500 castes. But the state government says that there are 1,400 castes. Then, where are the remaining castes? Why the government is not identifying and listing them? questioned Dr. Dwaraknath. There are still hundreds of castes remaining to be included in the list. But the government is referring to the list given by somebody and does not have the concern to identify the actual existing castes. Hence, there is no question of SC/ST classification and identification for the reservation, he accused.
Later M.P. Umeshchandra – Special Officer of SC/ST Unit Mangalore University briefed on the inclusion of Mogera caste into the SC/ST category. He said that such inclusion deprives the real SC/ST communities. He condemned using such communities as the vote bank by the Dalith politicians such as Mallikarjuna Kharge, Shrinivasa Prasad, Motamma, G. Parameshwar and others. He said the real problems of the SC/ST communities is not social or economical, but it is political. So the people from these communities need to get the political power, that is the only solution to their problems, he said.
Dasaansa district Chief Coordinator Jayan Malpe presided over the function. Leader Deekayya gave the introductory speech. Saraswathi teacher welcomed the guests and the gathering. Dinakara Bengre compeered the program. On this occasion the achievers from the Dalitha Community; Udupi Minicipal Corporation member Anandi, Jilla Panchayath member Mallika Ashok, Karkala Purasabhe President Prathibha Mohan and Sadhu Belthngadi who appealed to the court on the injustice, were felicitated.
