Belman: Konkani Manyatha Divas celebrated

Belman, 30 August 2011: Konkani language has thousands of years of history and is the mother tongue of vast population in the coastal areas of three states. The Central and State governments have recognized Konkani language as one of the national languages and are also providing financial help and encouragement. This is an proud factor, said Lucas D’Souza – Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council of Pamboor Holy Cross Church.
He was speaking as the Chief Guest in the program “Konkani Manyatha Divas” which was jointly organized by Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy and Belman St. Joseph’s Aided Higher Primary School, after distributing the prizes to the winners in competitions.
Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy member B. Pundalika Marathe in his introductory note briefed on the achievements of the Konkani Academy and the grants and encouragements being given by the Karnataka government. Senior Teacher Sewrine Mendonsa presided over the function and in her presidential address she appreciated the cultural programs presented by the students in Konkani language.
School Headmistress Sr. Monica welcomed the guests and the gathering. Teacher Juliana Moras proposed vote of thanks. Teacher Vincent Pinto compeered the program. Lilly D’Souza, Harshendra Kumar Jain and Laveena D’Souza were the Judges for the competitions.
The competition winners are as follows:
Essay competition: First – Sushma Shenoy, Second – Manisha, Third – Shiva Prasad.
Speech competition: First – Manisha, Second – Sushma Shenoy, Third – Swethlana.
Konkani singing: First – Rolita, Second – Reesha D’Souza, Third – Lavita Correa.
Gorup dance: First – Neha and team, Second – Vishwalatha and team, Third – Vinishya and team.
