Udupi: Total 5,949 pilgrims go for Hajj from the state

Udupi, 30 August 2011: This time from the state total 5,949 pilgrims will go for Hajj, said state Hajj committee member M. Salim Ambagilu. Speaking in the press conference in Udupi he said, last time total 20,000 people had applied for Hajj pilgrimage. This time with less numbers, means only 12,812 people have applied. From the central government to the state provision is made for 5,677 persons. Out of them 4,404 were selected online.
 
Another 1,273 were selected include the ones who did not get opportunity since last 3 years applying repeatedly and above 70 years of age. From the wait listings another 272 have been selected. So altogether from the state 5,949 persons will be going on Hajj pilgrimage this time. Among them 90 persons were included from last year who could not go due to technical reasons and passport problems, he said.

 


 
From Mangalore (D.K., Udupi, Kodagu, U.K.) 700 persons, Hyderabad (Yadagiri, Gulbarga, Bidar) 650 persons, Bangalore (from all other districts) total 4,327 Hajj pilgrims will be going. From Mangalore on 29th September first batch will be boarding the plane. State Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda will be seeing them off, said Salim.
 
In all the 3 centres from where the pilgrims will be boarding the plane, a 2 days camp will be held to provide information to them. After 40 – 45 days upon completing the Hajj, the pilgrims will be returning to the respective airports. In order to look after the health, records, technical information, arrangements etc., one Khadimul Hajjaj per every 300 persons, so total 20 Khadimul Hajjajs have been arranged by the state Hajj committee.
 
From Udupi district 59, D.K. district 285, U.K. district 110 and Kodagu district 55 will be going to Hajj pilgrimage, he said. In the press conference District Advisory committee President Budan Basha, Vice President Arif Kallotte, members; Dr. Raffique Hoode, Abdul Rehman Kalkatta, Maula Saheb, State Tippu Sanstana Committee member Karamat Ali were present.
