Puttur: St Philomena College organizes ‘Impact Lecture Series’

Puttur, 301 Mar 2024: An ‘Impact Lecture’, first lecture of the ‘Impact Lecture Series’ organized jointly by the Institutional Innovation Council (IIC) of St Philomena College and the department of computer science, at the PG Seminar Hall of the college on March 28. The innovation cell of the Ministry of Education and AICTE provides financial support to institutions in their network to organize the impact lecture series, aimed at creating awareness among youth about start-ups, innovation, and intellectual property rights.

 

 

In the inaugural lecture, Glenson Tony, assistant professor in the department of electronics and communication at St Joseph’s College of Engineering, Mangaluru, and coordinator of the training and placement unit, participated as the resource person. The lecture was presided over by the principalof thecollege, Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro. Addressing the students, he remarked, “Today’s era is characterized by entrepreneurship. Innovation serves as the cornerstone of any successful business venture. Dedication and innovation are paramount for enterprise success. Mere exposure to success stories is insufficient; we must learn entrepreneurial and life lessons by understanding the challenges faced by entrepreneurs and how they overcame them.” Glenson Tony emphasized that a successful entrepreneur wields the power to transform society and stressed the importance of mentorship in converting ideas into tangible products.

 

During the lecture, discussions ranged from potential start-up opportunities in agriculture-dominated environments to case studies of successful enterprises and the common reasons behind business failures. Furthermore, Tony highlighted the start-up prospects available to students in the computer science department and elucidated the support mechanisms provided by central and state governments for aspiring entrepreneurs, including information about available grants.

 

Anusha Bhargavi and her team rendered prayer, Geetha Poornima, president IIC unit at the college welcomed. Vinayachandra, dean of the computer science department, proposed the vote of thanks, Neelam Kuttappa, Assistant professor in the computer science department, compered the programme. Abhishek Suvarna, coordinator of the IIC unit of the college was present on the dais. Students of BCA programme actively participated in the event.
