Udupi: Theatre Yaksha performs Yakshagana ‘Chakravyuha’ at Azim Premji University

Udupi, 21 Feb 2024: The Theatre Yaksha (R) Udupi recently presented Yakshagna ‘Chakravyuha’ at Azim Premji University [APU], Sarjapur, Bengaluru, marking the first event in the newly constructed open-air auditorium.

 

 

The performance was attended by professor Sharad Sure, the registrar of APU, and teaching staff and students, who expressed their appreciation for the show. Dr A Narayana, professor of Public Policy and Governance, provided a brief introduction to the theatre of Yakshagana, before the show. The episode ’Chakravyuh,’ composed by poet Devidasa and adapted from the epic Mahabharata. The show was directed by Prithviraj Kavathar and was an experiment with contemporary interpretation, while retaining the traditional essence.

 

Artists who were part of this performance were Vishwas Karbet (Bhagavathar), Skanda Konnar (Chenda Player), Varun Hebbar (Maddala Player), Praneet Ballakkuraya (Violinist), Shambhayya Kanjarpane, Sasikiran Kavu, Iswaraprasad P V, Sunil Bhaskar Pallamajalu, Suresh Bayar, Ranjith Malla, Santosh Panjikallu, Prasad Cherkadi, Pawan Kerwashe, Nagesh Bailur, Adarsh Mudbidire, Yatish Kadaba. Srisha Narayana Hegde, Pawanraj Venur (actors), Nandakishore (lighting), Pramod Tantri, Shivram Kalmadka (greenroom assistants).

 

Prior to the performance, Yaksha artists conducted a Yakshagana workshop and interacted with APU students.
