Mangaluru, 12 Feb 2024: The Sandesha Foundation and Culture and Education held the Sandesha Awards 2024 ceremony here on Sunday, February 11 at the Sandesha ground, Nanthoor.

On this occasion, eight eminent personalities received the Sandesha Awards under different categories and were felicitated. Sandesha Literature Award (Kannada) was conferred on B A Viveka Rai, Sandesha Literature Award (Konkani) ton Valerian Quadras, Sandesha Literature Award (Tulu) on Muddu Moodubele, Sandesha Media Award on Abdussalam Puttige, Sandesha Konkani Music Award on Alwyn D’Cunha, Sandesha Art Award on Chandranth Acharya, Sandesha Education Award on Hucchamma and the Sandesha Special Award was presented to Jana Shikshana Trust.

On this occasion, the chief guest of the event U T Khader, speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly said, "I feel happy to be a part of the sandesha Foundation which has organised this awards ceremony. If you want to see the whole Dakshina Kannada’s tradition at one place then you will have to come to Sandesha. At Sandesha not only do they teach arts and culture but they also recognise and give away awards to the deserving people. Sandesha is a transforming institute and whatever sacrifice that the founding members did, I am thankful for that. I always believe that culture is like a window and when something is written it reaches many hearts. The roads, buildings are not real prosperity. I believe that customs, traditions and unity is the real index of prosperity. Children’s and parents go out to enjoy themselves. But when there is a book exhibition, no one visits. I as a brother will always support and help the Sandesha Foundation. Much more emphasis should be given to programmes such as Bandutva to ensure that things stay safe for our future generations."

Also, addressing the gathering, Dr Peter Machado, archbishop of Bangalore and president of Karnataka Regional Bishops Conference said that "I am happy to be here and I have talked to Bishop Henry and this institution has been a place of gathering that fosters arts and culture. Art is important for us because it expresses divineness of a particular thing. It brings us pride to our country when we go to Hampi every stone is carved in a special way and India is our motherland. So whatever we do in dance, culture, arts will eventually help us. The message which is given through artistic form hits the hearts of listeners."

He further added that, "Culture is what you are. Culture is in your heart. Values in life are important and transition of values are much more important. Children are made to act like adults and they stay like adults. Children go to school and attend tuitions and they never have a chance to act and behave like children."

On this occasion, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangalore said that "How in temple, church, mosques our hearts join the lord the same way when we listen to music. We believe in Bandhutva and we should feel happy to see people from all cultures. There is more that unites us than divides us. May Sandesha institute prosper."

On this occasion, Dr Henry D’Souza, the bishop of Bellary and chairman of the institute said that "Where we are born and to whom we are born is not important. What we become after growing up is important. I appreciate everyone who were awarded today. In Ballari we run a school for special children and there are students from other communities as well. There are people from different cultures, states, and caste and that make us Indians. Art and culture should be used to attract more people. When we started this institution there was no social media and artificial intelligence, but now it’s there so by using them we should promote more people. We should protect our environment and raise it."

On this occasion the second regional convention logo of YCS, YSM was unveiled with the theme of GEN-Z self sustaining world.

The welcome speech was delivered by Dr Sudeep Paul and the vote of thanks was delivered by Roy Castelino. The event was compered by Concepta Alva.

On this occasion, Chinappa Gowda, Na Da Shetty, Dr Sudeep Paul, and members of the Sandesha awards jury were present.
